My Champion.
A little backstory here, I grew up avoiding competition at any cost. Board games? I hated 'em. Team sports? Not me. I quit band when we had to start competing for chairs. It's not that I couldn't do it, I just didn't want somebody telling me I had to.

So how do you handle a boy. A MOST competitive boy, who has just seen the end of his undefeated season, with a loss. Oh, they had a great season - they were champs - they were winners, they were some of the best. The game was still undecided in the middle of the fourth period, it could've gone either way, it just went the wrong way. These 11, 12 and 13 year olds were inconsolable. So, Puck's team took Second in State, and played an incredible tournament, but it is very difficult for these little guys not to be disappointed in themselves.

On the other hand, this group of 24 kids coached by three dads and a high school Junior, nearly beat a team coached by six men with a combined 120 years of experience playing and coaching Lacrosse. So, GO PUCK! and y'know what? GO COACHES! You guys rocked my Summer! You are all my CHAMPIONS!

Now, let's go play some Football.

Anybody? Anybody?

OMGoodness, Captain Hammer! Dr. Horrible! Joss Whedon, I love you! Something really great did come out of the Writer's strike!

Am slowly recovering from exhausting weekend, more update posts to follow....there's yarn, there's frogging, there's WIP, there's Lacrosse, and and now Lacrosse is over, guess what starts in week and a half? Football.

Um, this was supposed to be WIP Wednesday????

Sorry, best intentions and all that...

Persephone, Which is now down past the heel-turn, knit up from some Scout's Swag. Very stretchy and scrunchy. A little more complicated pattern than I am used to, but I am liking it. (Deb, I think I gifted you this pattern? Have you tried it yet?)

Puck's Lacrosse team is in the Championship games this weekend and I am running the concession stand and begging for volunteers, thus, very little knitting is going on.

HEADS UP!

Local knitters - KnitWits out in Chanhassen are closing their doors at the end of August. I think markdowns are currently around 25-30% - I'm not sure what is left, but check it out! See you on the other side of this weekend!

A Day Late

brigid

How great it this color? I love it to pieces.

This pattern is so easy and lovely I would definitely knit it again. A good way to get started on cables.

Pattern: Brigid by Renee Leverington Yarn: Yarntini Semi-Solid Sport (from TLE)- Colorway: Merlot Needles: Knitpicks DPN's in size 3 Started: July 18, 2008 Completed: July 20, 2008. Note: I finished the first sock in one day as we were in our car for 8 hours driving up to pick up the newly-schooled pooch.

Lacrosse playoffs start tonight. I'll be out yelling for Puck. Also? I've been put in charge of running the concession stand for the championship rounds being held at the High School on Saturday and Sunday. Yikes! Talk about last minute scrambling. Anyone know a local restaurant that has the ability to prepare and sell food on a mobile basis?

Plain Old Vanilla Stripey Socks:

Pattern: Cuff-Down, Picot Edge Stockinette Sock Yarn: Yarntini Self-Striping Sock Colorway: Pure Breeze Needles: Knitpicks Harmony DPN's in size 1 Started: July 13, 2008 Completed: July 17, 2008. Note: I've no linkies for this pair of socks 'cause it was a yarn club colorway, and I don't think they are doing the yarn club again. They are incredibly soft and snuggly.

I finished another pair this weekend, I'll have show and tell tomorrow. I also started another pair this morning, I'll have progress on that on Wednesday? After that I will be at Lacrosse games until the weekend ends! Tonight I am anticipating The Closer and Amazing Grace for my evening knitting.

Oh, and Ozzie's home. If I can get him to sit still long enough, I may have pictures this week.

Wrappin' Up The Week

I finished Pair O Socks #4 for SOS '08! Blogger does not want to take my photos today, so we'll have some details for you on Monday, 'kay? If you are on Ravelry you can see it under my Projects page.

I cast on brigid from goddessknits in this lovely Yarntini (from TLE). (I did successfully resist the Loopy stock-up this week.) I anticipate this will knit up quickly (size 4 needles people!) Brigid is a free pattern, but she has others for sale.

Puck's team won both games v Minnetonka teams this week (Monday and Wednesday). That means that his team finished the season officially in first place in their division, next week are the playoff games and Championship games are next weekend.

Today we are leaving to pick up the errant pup. Ozzie's been at school for two months and we are driving up to pick him up today. I'm hoping he's learned some manners in his absence. Then we'll be relaxing at the cabin until Sunday.

Oh, and be afraid. Very afraid. The Teen passed his drivers' license exam (with a 97!), and now if officially a licensed driver. (GULP)

I think I've wrapped it up here, have a good weekend.

I Am Breaking My Own Rule:
(I don't typically show you my kids' faces...but come on!)

This is out in Amherst - look at that kid battle! Do not mess with the kid with the long pole!

Look at that face, I know I'm the mom, but I think he is a very handsome young man.

I love my first Knit Ditty so much, I went back to Sew Bendy and bought a second one. I'm not going to keep it, it's a Christmas gift, but I am tempted. It's the perfect size for one pair of socks and dangles perfectly from your wrist.

Pucks Plays Lacrosse!

That's him there in the black and red with the long white socks and the long black pole. He is tough and nobody gets past him! (He plays defensive long-pole.) You can't see him in this picture, but his big brother is reffing this game. They beat the best Minnetonka 5/6 team last night 5-1. They play the (arguably) second-best Minnetonka team tomorrow night and that is the last game in their regular season. EP 5/6 Red is tied for 1st place in their division and they start playoff games next week.
Oh look at this, somehow, some beautiful blue Louet (clearance from WEBS!) wound up in my stash. I think there is a sweater in there (I have enough of them in my queue.) Perhaps for the Ravelympics...I haven't decided which events to sign up for...perhaps Amy can help me out; she seems to be causing trouble all over the place!

And these are showing off in my garden today. I bought these at the Minneapolis Farmers Market five years ago. Yellow Daylilies (Stella d'oro) are everywhere, and I have this inner drive to be different. They've been split and spread throughout my yard once already.

Do you like how I hid my stash transgression in the middle of all my other chatter? By the way, I just got the email - TLE has updated the site and there is some Spritely Goods Sylph there. Yum. Also? Perchance to Knit....um, bye?

I Don't Even Eat Sweet Potatoes.

However, I really did fall in love with this colorway - Sweet Potatoe Pie.

Kind of hypnotizing, isn't it?

Pattern: Spring Forward Socks by Linda Welch as published on Knitty.com Yarn: Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Merino - Colorway: Sweet Potato Pie Needles: Knitpicks Harmony DPN's in size 1 Started: July 8, 2008 Completed: July 12, 2008. Note: This was a mill end, so I can't complain too much about the condition of the yarn (kinda iffy in some places), however I do wish the colors were a little brighter in the finished item. The pattern however was spiffy as all get-out. Quickly memorized and quickly finished.

Sigh, TLE....do you suppose I'll ever get some more Wollmeise? I know I completely missed an update on her website last week.

This is my last week of peace and quiet, after next Sunday, Ozzie will be returning home. Gulp. Do you suppose I will have to re-potty train him?

I mailed some yarn-ends and a blanket square today.

The wanderers are home from Amherst - they had a great time. They won 2 out of their 5 games (actually, much better than they expected), and learned a lot about how to improve their game.

I started my fourth pair of SOS '08 socks today. Heaven help me.

Better.

This is so much better. There's a cuff, and a heel flap and a gusset and soon, there will be toe decreases and kitchenering, ahh, I feel so much better. I'll do a toe up again, but I'll stick with the short row heel, which has a tenuous hold on my affections. This is a Spring Forward sock. The Cherry Tree Hill is some limited edition I bought from The Loopy Ewe a little while ago.

In the meantime, season 2 of Burn Notice starts tonight at 9 pm on USA, I just finished watching season 1 on my iPod and I can't wait for this season to start. It's got to be good if Bruce Campbell's in it (and last season for one show - Lucy Lawless as a bad guy!!!) Also, at the end of the first season, we've heard the voice of Tricia Helfer:

STARBUCK!

she's another badass, but we haven't seen her yet.

I am a television addict, might explain all the socks I knit.

Puck and DH head off to Amherst/U-Mass tomorrow for the big Lacrosse tournament. I'm a wee bit jealous. However, the Teen and I get a weekend to ourselves, very nice.

This Was Supposed to be WIP Wednesday.

Instead it's "Let's Visit the Frog Pond Lacrosse Day". (I dunno, go with me, I'm makin' it up.) This was Wendy's pattern from the Summer of Socks 2008 - but my lack of fondness for toe-up combined with the heel I didn't understand, prompted me to ri-i-i-i-ip. I may re-visit with some different yarn and some mods for my comfort. Instead, I cast on the Spring Forward Socks from the current Knitty. Much more up my alley, with the whole cuff-down structure. (The yarn is Cherry Tree Hill's Sweet Potatoe Pie.) I'm rockin' the first heel flap already.

We watched Puck's team win a very lackadaisical Lacrosse game tonight (all these little athletes are attending multiple sports camps and by the time they get to the Lacrosse field, they're pooped!) Then I had to hurry home to catch the end of So You Think You Can Dance - tonight Katee and Joshua stole my heart with their Bollywood dance. I want to download that on Youtube and watch it every day!

I Am So Lame.

Five whole days at the cabin with family and friends and I could not be bothered to lift my camera even one time. Seriously? Lame = me. Rest assured there was Sea-doo riding, paintball playing, late night poker, tubing behind the pontoon and much cooking and eating (Oh, and the boys blew up multitudes of exploding things.)

However, I have completed the second pair of socks for Summer of Socks '08.

Pattern: Twinkleberry by Beth LaPensee from Knitzi.com (I just noticed she has a new pattern up...) Yarn: Ruby Sapphire Yarns Ruby yarn in the Abby colorway Needles: Knitpicks Harmony DPN's in size 1 Started: July 1, 2008 Completed: July 6, 2008. Note: This yarn is soft and a little fuzzy, but these socks are going to be great and they are so very soft and scrunchy. The pattern was easy and so pretty (I think I'd pass on the short-row heel and come up with a heel flap next time.) I hope someone doesn't think I knit these too fast....I'd hate to come up under censure.

Puck has Lacrosse practice tonight, he's got to get ready for his traveling team's big tournament next weekend out in Amherst, Mass. Teen and I get to stay home and practice for the re-taking of the driver's license exam.
