SOS '08

Mostly WIP's!

This are my Rainforest Socks - yarn is Lisa Souza Sock!

This is my Bellamodem yarn in the Django pattern.

This is Whistle Bait in some wool I received from my Pal in the Netherlands.

I think I'd have finished a whole pair if I hadn't hopped from sock to sock.

This is my little blanket square - I'll be knitting a whole bunch of these. This is for the Yarnery's sock yarn blanket project that benefits Women's Advocates Inc. We have another Lacrosse game tomorrow night, and then we are off to the cabin for the weekend. I can hardly wait to get on the Sea Doo!. I may not get out of the water this weekend.

I have suffered some major stash enhancement this week, maybe I'll show you tomorrow. In the meantime - So You Think You Can Dance? is so EXCELLENT this season! Anybody else watching? Who's your fave dancer? (Twitch!)

Where's Puck?

That's my boy! They came home with a Silver Medal! These boys came up against the 2-year Michigan State Championship U-13 team. (Puck plays Defense), his end of the field held Michigan to 1 point the whole first half. In the end, they went down 3-4 - but it was a heck of a game! There're only two boys younger than Puck on this team - can you pick him out?

Not much knitting was finished - I spent too much time pacing the field. There are a few cuffs underway, but we'll look for some progress around Wednesday or so!

Note: I also knit a blanket square for the Yarnery's Promise Blanket Project - pictures next week after I get a chance to block it.

In the meantime, we are heading to Crystal Lake, Illinois for Puck to play in a Lacrosse tournament this weekend. I've got a sock project in the bag for the drive, and another to start on 6/21 so it counts for the Summer of Socks 2008.

Hope everyone has a beautiful weekend.

Sock and a Half:

This is Zen Yarn Garden Bamboolicious yarn in the Pomegranate colorway. The sock pattern is the June Sockamania choice pattern Speedway (and it really is fast). That's a Ravelry link, by the way. Look how shiny and slippery this yarn is. I feel like I'm knitting a blueberry tiger. The yarn is from Woolgirl.com. Woolgirl has no Bamboo right now, but she does have some of Zen Garden's Seacell.

Comments Answered:

Bellamodem wanted to know what CookieA pattern I was knitting her yarn in - and I can't answer comments with email (technical idiot), so I'm going to answer her here - it's the Django pattern - relatively simple (for a CookieA pattern), so the pattern and the lovely colors don't battle too much.

Jeanne (who is sadly, blogless) - isn't that a personal question?

Finally, I think Cursing Mama is just jealous due to her Sockus Interruptus....and Deb is just being a pot-stirrer (plus she didn't save me any brownies, hmph!)

The reason I have all of those lovely socks lined up ready to go?

The ranks are full at over 1,000 knitters, we start on 6/21.

Ummm, woops.

I know they're blurry - just look at the colors and you'll see why I slipped. Emily Parson's Sophies Toes. She had an update and a sale. Guess which one is called "Starry Starry Night." She sold 191 skeins on Tuesday night, I barely got in on the goodies, or I would've posted a heads-up.

More Socks.

This pair traveled this weekend and I've already finished one half of the pair. EASY pattern. Also? I am so getting caught up with all of my Podcast listening.

Raven is becoming a Lacuna sock. This pattern is so yummy. Now I'm not going to knit on any of the rest of these until 6/21 when the Summer of Sock '08 starts. (yea, right...)

Seriously, you think I'd be over this sock thing by now, but I'm not. I think it's the yarn. Really. Look at this. I haven't tried Rock Creek Yarns before, but, Kilauea? How do I resist?

I don't.

Next Topic:

Renee posted on Sunday about a blanket project that The Yarnery is conducting. See her blog for more information, but if you have a box of leftover sock yarn (like I do), make a square, or two and then box up the rest for the ladies at the Yarnery. I love the cause - Woman's Advocates, Inc. The squares are really cute too.

Finis!

Drunken Bees are done and I am very happy with the finished product, although I'm afraid the teen may abscond with these for cabin wear. This is #1 on my Summer Goals list from the previous post.

Pattern: Drunken Bees by the Domesticat (free pattern) Yarn: Forgive me - but the band was lost from this skein and I have no earthly clue. Needles: Knitpick Harmony 2.25mm Started: These started life on 3/11 as the Hareton socks. I frogged them and recast on June 3, 2008 Completed: June 10, 2008. Note: In this yarn the pattern was really bulky so I did the foot of the sock in stockinette. The pattern itself wound up being less feminine in this colorway so the teen is very interested in them.

I've been kind of absent from my blog this week because I had a little procedure done on my back on Monday morning. I had steroids injected into my spinal cord to help reduce the inflammation from my herniated disc. My back feels much better, but steroids are just a nasty thing. The side-effects should be finished soon so I am am hoping to be back in fighting form soon.

Puck had his third Lacrosse game of the season and holy cow! His team is now 3-0-0 and have scored a total of 34 goals and only been scored on twice! I had to run the score table last night, but I promise photos are coming.

The teen is taking his drivers license test on Friday morning so we have been practicing the driving every day this week. All documentation is in order this time so we should have no excuses not to complete the test.

Very Damp Lilacs.

Well, we have a little shopping trip planned to DSW for some casual footwear for the younger set. A little lunch at Panera is also in the works.

What I Am Going to Do (Knit) This Summer:

1. Finish the Drunken Bees sock.

2. Finish the cardi featured in this post. I've managed about 24 rows since then.

3. Knit Socks.

Clockwise from upper left corner. #1 Whistle Bait (Ravelry link) by Terry Ross Designs. The yarn is from my pal Yvonne in the Amsterdam. #2 Lacuna (not a Ravelry link), also from Terry Ross Deisgns. The yarn is the Sanguine Gryphon eidos in the Bougainvillea colorway (dare I say, from The Loopy Ewe - she has only roving right now). #3 Rainforest Socks by Anni Design (Sockamania June pattern choice) - the yarn is Socks that Rock lightweight in Lenore (a Rockin' Sock Club selection). #4 Slip Stitch Delight Socks by Terry Ross Designs (a FREE Ravelry download!) The yarn is Black Beauty kettle dyed superwash merino from Bellamoden's Etsy shop. #5 Speedway Socks from Anni Design (another Sockamania June pattern choice), the yarn is Zen Yarn Garden Merino/Bamboo/Nylon blend in the pomegranite colorway (bought at Woolgirl). #6 Arch-Shaped Socks (free PDF download) by Jen Showalter - the yarn is Tess Supersocks - the yarn was a gift from Mia (who is going through the loss of her mom right now, if you could spare her a kind word).

4. Knit Mr. Greenjeans from Knitty.

That is Lipstick Lava from Dream in Colors - my walk of shame purchase this week.

5. Finish the Nutkins! Oh wait, they're already done!!!!!

Pattern: Nutkin by Beth LaPensee (free download!) Yarn: Yarn Love Scarlett O'Hara in the Friendship colorway (again, The Loopy Ewe) Needles: Knitpick Harmony 2.5mm Started: May 16, 2008 Completed: June 4, 2008. Note: Love the cuff, love the pattern, the yarn is very soft, if a tad splitty. No fit issues for me.

Now, Ali over at Skeins Her Way is having another Summer Goals contest so here is my link. Don't you want to join us? Last day of school today!!!!

Hello Nutkin!

I am ready to turn the heel on Nutkin #2. I really just like typing the word "Nutkin".

Nutkin.

I frogged the Hareton sock. The fabric was just too dense. Instead I cast on the Drunken Bee. Notice I am knitting the foot of the sock in stockinette. The pattern, while adorable, was quite bulky for the foot of the sock, although I loved the heel flap. The more solid yarn the author used shows the pattern much better.

Also? I am weak.

I was out in Maple Grove having lunch with my sis and my mom to celebrate mom's 70th birthday. I'd never been to Amazing Threads, and my sister showed me the way, so I went. (The staff were very nice, and after inquiring if I needed help once or twice, left me to my own devices.) This bag is going to be Mr. Greenjeans. Which I will cast on soon, along with half a dozen pair of socks. Really.

Also? Puck's LAX team marched to another 12-0 victory last night. Woot! If we ever get a game day not drenched with rain, I will take some pictures of these guys playing. They are a riot to watch.
