Oh My Heavens!

How much time does a college-bound Senior need from his mom anyway? Sheesh.

Hey look! I am going to try to draw your attention away from my absence by showing you socks!

Pattern: Rose Bud Lane Socks by Sabine Riefler Yarn: Funky Carolina Superwash Merino sock yarn Color: Witch Blood Needles: Knitpicks Harmony DPN's US 1 Started: November 4, 2009 Completed: November 10, 2009.

Note: A simple and pretty pattern that knit up very quickly and very stretchy. I really loved the base of this Funky Carolina yarn - it felt thick/thin to my fingers by knit up very beautifully and consistently. She doesn't have any sock yarn up in her shop right now - but I think this yarn would be worth a little persistence.

Life has been busy, I fed 19 for Thanksgiving yesterday and I was thankful for them all. I have been herding the Senior to complete his college applications. I've been hitting the knitting group every other Wednesday. Watching a LOT of Football, and hockey. Tonight the HS plays in the Prep Bowl State Championship and we're taking a quick shot up to the cabin tomorrow and Sunday. I'm also trying to get the Holiday basket filled with socks so my holiday guests can grab themselves a pair. My MIL ran off with hers yesterday.

In the meantime, I hope to spend more time with the blog in the near future!

Oh! I actually won some books from Chris over at SOC and we got together for a little knit and coffee to pick up my prize! I'd show you a picture, but I'm afraid they are spread out in my reading spots all over the house.

OK. Wait a Minute. What?

Seriously now. This little piece of marketing was on my doorknob this week. I can't believe that this business is doing well in this economy.

Salida's

Pattern: Salida by Janneke Maat Yarn: Madelinetosh tosh sock Color: Norway Spruce Needles: Knitpicks Harmony DPN's US 1.5 Started: September 22, 2009 Completed: October 18, 2009.

Note: This is a beautiful pattern. While I find patterns like these demand more of my attention (patterns with a longer repeat), I find they move along really quickly when I'm knitting them.

Miscellaneous Vents & Brags:

So a year ago I bought a skein of hand-dyed sock yarn from an Etsy store that has been marinating in my stash. This morning I decided to wind it up for the upcoming sock-knitting binge and found myself spending an most frustrating hour. Have you ever had a hank of yarn so big that it wouldn't fit on your umbrella swift? Grrr. It is not pretty, and ever so bewildering.

What could I possibly brag about, you may ask? (Hmm, not a trick question!) Puck had his first non-scrimmage hockey game last night. Let me tell you, I'm surprised we've made it this far into the season after the horrible experience he had last year. The best news was that he got drafted onto a team with his friends and a FAIR coach. No short-benching the C players!

ANYWAY - Puck's team played a game against Eastview last night - it was a very exciting game and Puck got the winning goal (with help from two other players - he knocked the rebound into the net!) My boy is rediscovering why he loved Hockey in the first place!

Museum of Glass

So. Teen and I had dinner in Tacoma on the Thursday night of our West Coast Venture. We ate in a marina restaurant down on the Sound and out the window of the restaurant we saw this:

I don't know how many of you have heard of Dale Chihuly, an artist working in glass. There was just vague glass recognition for me - but Teen and I were blown away by his installation.

There were other artists and so many of the installations were outside, it was a fantastic evening walk - but too dark for my little point and shoot camera. Please click on the link in my title to see them. The Mirrored Murrelets and the Fluent Steps were so stunning with the strategic lighting - please go see them if you can. Puget Sound is an easy second choice for Teen, but definitely a second choice.

In the meantime, I promise you that there is knitting going on. There is also coughing and sniffing and everything else that goes along with it. I am not confident in the status of my lungs - I have an inkling I may be working a little pneumonia - I keep hoping the cough will subside. Puck is leaning more towards the sinus infection, but we have our fingers crossed and I have been pushing the saline nasal spray. So don't give up on me...the photos are coming!
