Big Honkin' Post

Pattern: #21 Poppy Socks by Cookie A. from Spring/Summer 2009 Knit1 Yarn: The Unique Sheep Verve Color: Poppy Bush Needles: Knitpicks DPN's US 1/2.25 mm Started: June 20, 2009 Completed: June 29, 2009.
Note: This was Empoisonee, somewhere after I finished the toe when I was “moving six stitches” the pattern started to look very, very wrong. In the meantime, Poppy is looking just fine. I can always be happy with a Cookie A. pattern, even if I REALLY, REALLY don't like toe-up construction.
So, doesn't Thor sound like a very testosteriffic name? I decided my young men would go nuts over Thor's contribution to winter-wear:
Also? Thor is the new name of my little companion sheep. This is Whippoorwill Hollow Farm Black Spotted Lambs Wool, handspun Lopi-style. The label says it is "Blended with Thor's brothers to create this beautiful rich and varied, soft grey lambs wool." I purchased this at the Pine Needle up in Cable, Wisconsin last weekend. David is also an artist and I can think of a few people that would love this Corgi painting. Spinners - they also sell fiber.
This is how the boys would like to spend the weekend. If only their dad would let them. We are off again tomorrow afternoon so I will be looking for you all after the Holiday!

Diminishing Rib Cardi
Pattern: Diminishing Rib Cardi by Andrea Pomerantz from Spring 2009 IK Yarn: Blue Moon Fiber Arts Peru Color: Spinel Needles: Knitpicks Options US 8/5.0 mm Started: May 4, 2009 Completed: June 23, 2009.
Note: I learned a new cast-on and bind-off for this sweater, (yay learning new things)! I believe I made it one size too large, however this is too comfy not to wear. I used around 1250 yards so I'll have to come up with a hat to make with the leftovers. This completes my sixth sweater for NaKniSweMoDo. Now the Copine needs some sleeves...
Cabin in the morning so I'm working on the other pink sock this weekend.

Empoison-what?
Heat Index is off the charts. I really do hate this weather. Look at these beautiful projects. They are just crawling along. I can only bring myself to do a row or two, then I have to go get a glass of sun tea.
Well, Empoisonee was marching right along, I got that little toe finished and started to go, "Huh, wha....move six stitches again?" No way to check for errata. Rrrrrrip. Luckily I had my Spring/Summer '09 Knit1 with four sock patterns in it. I'll try Empoisonee again at a later date, when I can give it my full attention. This is cookie A.'s poppy socks. Another toe up, but somehow, an easier pattern to follow.
We are home a few more days and then it's off to the cabin, again. I did manage to get the Diminishing Rib Cardi finished this afternoon - hopefully I can get some photos tomorrow morning after the AC guys are here. In the meantime, I am off to sweat through watching Lacrosse!

Dog Tired!
They'd have to be to be this close together, peacefully. (Kona on the left, and Ozzie on the right).
At least at the cabin I'm less than 60 feet from the water - it stinks bein' here at home with only half an a/c system.
I have knitting news, but no pictures to go along yet. Look for sock news tomorrow....

Sleeve Purgatory
Why yes, I went to Catholic grade school, why do you ask? (heh.) I'm just sayin'.
Wikipedia, referring to the colloquial use of the word "purgatory" says this: The word "purgatory" has come to refer also to a wide range of historical and modern conceptions of postmortem suffering short of everlasting damnation,[1] and is used, in a non-specific sense, to mean any place or condition of suffering or torment, especially one that is temporary.
They say a lot more, but this is the use I was looking for. The temporary torment of sleeves!
Copine is waiting patiently for hers - see her up there on Cherie. I'm about 1/6 done with her sleeves. Diminishing Rib Cardi is moving along quite a bit faster (mostly because I just had to pick up stitches to knit those sleeves). DRC will come visit later.
We had a much better week of Lacrosse, even though we played in a deluge on Tuesday and had several injured kids. Puck landed on his hip in camp and had to work through back spasms, we had the "bent" collarbone, and sprained thumb and tonight we had a possible broken hand. That's what happens when you give teens and pre-teens sticks and tell them to get the ball away from the other guy. Tuesday night they tied a Bloomington team 5-5 and tonight they beat Chaska 7-5. Tonight's game was awesome and they played like a bunch of all-stars.
In the meantime, Teen and DH are off to the cabin tonight. Puck and I are rolling out in the morning. Cabin knitting has been declared Empoisonee (now I've the knack of those short-row toes!) I've got some new yarn to show you and hopefully an FO next week so look for me later!

Hey Look!
That's Empoisonee!
(at least, that's the plan.)
Also? I'm quite sad as I just realized it's been a whole week since I posted and I have absolutely no excuse.
I have projects underway and I've been knitting. Promise! I'll even show you progress pictures later in the week!
I've also been at Lacrosse games. Puck's team won their first game, lost their second.
Quick Lacrosse Sportsmanship rant:
1. It is against the rules for the Defensive players to make grunting noises or roar at the Attack players to try to scare/startle them into dropping the balls. It is called UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT!
2. It is against the rules (not to mention common sense), to plow a kid into the grass after the whistle has blown. You will get a penalty. (ALSO? If he's 15 inches shorter than you? Unnecessary.)
3. It is also Unsportsmanlike Conduct to throw a Lacrosse ball into that kid's chest after you have been given a penalty.
4. It is against the rules to bring your stick down onto a player's back when he is on the ground - that is slashing. After the whistle it is unnecessary roughness.
5. When you broke our Middie's clavicle you should have had to forfeit the game.
Those were just the lowlights of our Thursday night game. I don't know what's going to happen to this team, but I know some of the Coaches are taking action in the background. I would actually like to email that coach directly, but I think it would bounce off of a thick head. The kids only act like the adults teach them....
The boys are at camp this week and I've been meeting with CenterPoint Energy getting A/C quotes. Wheee! In the meantime the boys have another game tonight so it's looking like minimal knitting at my house, again! Sigh. I'll get you those pics. Promise.
