Punky Penny Socks

You know, it's silly, but I'd forgotten how much fun it is to work on a pair of socks that just fly!

I've been working on Copine, but it starts with 18 inches of K6/P4 rib. I can work through a few rows when I sit down to watch TV in the evening, but then my mind wanders and it sits motionless in my hands for minutes at a time....

I imagine this pair will be finished by the end of the weekend, then it will be no excuses work on the Copine. I may even cast on the next sweater...

In the meantime, we had our first four Lacrosse games this week. Tuesday night the kids faced Wayzata and the JV won (yay Teen!), but the Varsity could not pull it together, they lost by one point! Tonight due to Puck's needs, I was stuck in EP when the Teen traveled out to Lakeville for a 5 pm game. JV won the day 6-1, playing in rain and on shoddy fields (not regulation and flooded badly). Varsity had a sound victory, defeating Lakeville South 17-3. Tomorrow is a night off and then Friday evening we head out to Lakeville North for the final games of the week.

In the meantime, new buttons to make plans for:

Did Someone Say Something About a Button Collection?

Ebay has proved itself a WONDERFUL source of vintage/Celluloid/Bakelite buttons. Texture and color are two reasons why I love knitting, these buttons fit right into that obsession.

Some buffed celluloid buttons. Very 50's retro. I want to bite them.

I picture these on a fluffy cream-colored cardigan. "Oh, Rob!" (Laura Petry, Dick Van Dyke)

Can you just feel the weight of some of these buttons (honestly, some will get tossed in the general button box, but the big, texture-y ones will have a sweater future!)

THEN we move on to the Bakelite. Don't you want to touch them?

The bright, spring-like colors, so sweet.

They look edible, don't they?

I might be in button trouble....

Liesl: Now With Buttons! (oh, and sleeves...)

Pattern: Liesl (Rav link) by Ysolda Teague from her website ysolda Yarn: Manos del Uruguay Wool Clasica Color: 055 Needles: Knitpicks Options in US 7 / 4.5 mm Started: April 8, 2009 Buttoned Up: April 25, 2009.

Note: Wow! I know I say it a lot, but this really was a quick knit. Combination of the thick/thin yarn and the larger sized needles. This also used only 690 yards of yarn. I was thrilled when I found She Shoots Sheep Shots' Etsy shop - these sea glass buttons are gorgeous little pieces of art.

Again, I am awake way too late watching Hockey - darn those California games! This Sharks/Ducks series is crrrrazy! The Sharks just bumped their series up to a sixth game. Thank goodness there are a whole bunch of hockey nuts over on Ravelry. I don't trash-talk much, but it's fun to watch the others chat it up!

One Sock, New Socks, Done Socks, Two Socks!

Beginning of Copper Penny Socks

Pattern: Braided Gem Socks (Rav link) by Elizabeth Ravenwood from Knitting with Handpainted Yarn Yarn: Crystal Palace Yarns Mini Mochi Color: 104 Fern Needles: Kollage Yarns' Square DPN's US2/2.75mm Started: March 4, 2009 Completed: March 22, 2009.

Note: These have been my "knitting group" socks receiving little more than weekly attention. I decided to buckle down and finish them up this week. The yarn is very soft and malabrigo-like to the hand and they are already quite fuzzy so I imagine there will be some pilling. With two separate skeins for these socks, there was no matching the stripes, but I don't mind the look.

So the week started on Monday night with two Lacrosse games in 46 degree weather, looked up on Wednesday with much warmer evening games, and finished up last night with another two, 46 degree, windy as all get-out, evening games. We saw victory in all six games and both Varsity and JV are undefeated.

If you are from our part of Minnesota, I know nobody will believe me when I say the Eden Prairie teams were the underdogs this year (it doesn't usually happen, but hey, look at our Hockey team this year!) However, they were ranked 5th in the state at the beginning of the season. So far we have defeated three of the four teams ranked ahead of us. Blake, Eastview and Eagan. These are some talented and determined boys who are so fun to watch! Not to mention Teen has seen some well-earned improvement in his game and was one of the scoring players last night, for the second game in a row!

Time to wake the troops for a busy day!

Stash Diving!

I dug this out of the stash on Sunday. I decided it was about time I cast on for Oblique, which I've been wanting to knit forever.

This is Peru (50% Alpaca/30% Merino/20% Silk) in the Spinel colorway from Blue Moon Fiber Arts. I haven't actually cast on, but I've got it wound up and ready to go. (Copine is sitting down in front of the TV for hockey playoffs - man I am exhausted from watching so much hockey!)

Life has been crazy-busy this week what with Lacrosse games on Monday and Wednesday. Varsity and JV remain undefeated so far this week beating Eastview and Apple Valley. I attended my knitting group on Wednesday morning and finished up my socks on the needles (pictures to come!) I cast on another pair this morning with some Pigeonroof Studios yarn from my stash!

My Copine:

My Copine has very humble beginnings. This is from the WEBS Sale Cascade ECO ++. Very yummy.

I ordered some Seaglass buttons from this etsy shop for my Ysolde. I do love pretty buttons. Even if they don't suit, they'll be lovely on another project.

Teen's JV Lacrosse team took names and kicked butt in their game yesterday - victory over the Blake Bears 10-1. EP Varsity was victorious in their rematch of last year's State Championship game (yay) 8-4. Varsity is no 3-0-0, JV is 3-0-0 and we have two Freshman/Sophomore teams who had their first games yesterday and they won all four of their games (yay again!) Mild temperatures and sunshine made for a lovely afternoon in the announcers' booth.

Almost Liesl...

...almost done!

I took these photos yesterday morning - I have a sleeve and half done as of this morning. Again - I have to go shopping for buttons; some big, pretty buttons.

In the meantime, I ordered this little sock knitting tote from Persnickity Knits - she has them in some gorgeous colors and I like that you can just tuck them into your bigger bag.

Some pretty Bambewe poking out of there.

In the meantime - we have more Lacrosse this afternoon - the big Blake re-match.

The JV boys beat Chaska last night, errrm, I can't remember the score right now, but it was at least by six goals. Varsity had a tougher match but they were victorious - 13-8. We stopped on the way home and had some yummy burgers at the Lion's Tap.

Sweatah Stash!

Berroco Peruvia and Cascade 109 Tweed LE

Taxes are paid for another year, the buttons for Duotone Cardi are here and Liesl is just flying off the needles. When the WEBS Sale flyer came, I was ready to add some new stuff to the stash. I'm still getting ready to cast on Copine, but I pre-ordered the pattern for Maize and can hardly wait!

In the meantime, our Lacrosse season started last night and Teen's JV team beat Bloomington Kennedy 8-2. Afterwards, we watched the Varsity LAX team face Kennedy's Varsity and that victory was 19-1. There are tougher roads ahead, the boys face Chaska on the road on Friday and Saturday afternoon there is a re-match of last year's State Tournament 1st and 2nd place teams (EP and Blake). We hope to have a different outcome this game!

Seriously?

Have you ever known me to take more than two weeks to finish a pair of socks?

It was nothing personal - I like the pattern and the yarn. I guess my attention was elsewhere. The sock yarn is going to get jealous of the sweater love goin' on over here. This is what gets taken out to knitting morning - so it gets a little lovin' once a week. (Yarn is Mini Mochi and it makes a really great fabric.)

Did I mention that HS Lacrosse has started? Teen is playing JV and their first game is next Wednesday. If you're lucky I'll have some exciting pictures to share! (Youth Lacrosse starts in May.)

Sound of Music - Central Station Antwerp (Belgium)

I think the whole world could use a little bit of this!

Liesl

Another one of Ysolde's charming patterns. Manos del Uruguay. Love the deep green of this yarn. However, the pattern is sucking up a LOT of yarn. It knits quickly so I'll probably keep going, but I may rip only to start again with something else from the stash. Too bad, because I really love this color.

Oh! I won my buttons from the ebay auction, so I'm just waiting for them to show up to finish the Duotone!

Anybody else watching AI this season? How about that Adam Halpert - man - he is a step above.

Done.

IK's Gathered Pullover

Pattern: Gathered Pullover by Hana Jason IK Winter 2007 Yarn: Jojoland Breeze Color: Chocolate Needles: Addi Turbo's US 7 / 4.5 mm Started: January 30, 2009 Completed: April 7, 2009.

Note: This looks a little "wrinkly" - but it's a fine yarn on a larger needle so it's supposed to have an "airy" look to it. I am looking forward to wearing this over a pretty tee shirt this spring.

I have been a knitting machine over the last week so now I have posts lined up for the next couple of days!! New projects, new stash and WIP's - woo-hoo!

Also? Nia was correct. This is a light-up jelly ring that I brought home from a Bar Mitzvah last weekend. (What a party that was!)

In My Absence...

Guess what this silly thing is?

Pinned and Unblocked:

...but the knitting is done.

I am bidding on some celluloid antique knot buttons on Ebay for this sweater. Even if I don't use them on this sweater, I think I will use these buttons. (Reminder: This is the Duotone Cardigan from Fall/Winter '08 Knit1.) I will have a complete knit recap when I have the buttons, but the actual knitting of this sweater took only 22 days - and I was working on a pair of socks and another sweater at the same time. (I am in the process of attaching sleeves and knitting a neckline on that other sweater!)

Off to the cabin this weekend to celebrate DH's 50th birthday. When I return we will be launching into NaKniSweMoDo #5! Copine is coming soon as well...
